Asking For A Quote In Betty's Bay: What Happens At The Site Visit.

Every job I do starts with a free site visit. Here is what happens when I come, what is worth having ready, and how the quote and the build follow from it.

Ask for a free site visit

Most people who message me about decking, a pergola, a staircase or a fence are not sure what the first step is, or whether asking for a quote commits them to anything. It does not. This is how it works.

What happens at the site visit

I come to the property and take a real look at the space. I take honest measurements and we talk through what actually makes sense for your space and your budget. The visit is free, with no charge and no obligation, and it is where every quote starts.

What to have ready

You do not need plans or a finished idea. Rough answers are enough, and the visit is where we sort out the rest.

  • What the space is for: dining, a braai area, privacy, shade, safe access up a slope?
  • A rough idea of the size, or where you would like it to start and finish.
  • Anything already there that it has to fit around, such as an existing deck, paving, a tree or a wall.
  • How you want it to look: natural timber, stained or painted.
  • A rough budget, so I can steer you toward the right timber and not waste your time on options that do not fit.
  • Any timing that matters, such as wanting it finished before a family visit or the busy summer weeks.

How the quote works

After the visit I work out the materials properly and give you a straightforward quote, so there is no guesswork once work begins.

Timber for each job

The timber is one of the first things we talk about, because it changes the price and how the job ages on this coast. These are the timbers I build each type of job in:

  • Decking: garapa, balau or treated pine.
  • Pergolas: garapa, balau or treated pine.
  • Staircases: garapa or treated pine.
  • Fencing: treated pine.

The thinking behind timber on this stretch of coast is in my decking timber guide, and the pergola decisions are in the pergola guide.

How long it takes and who does the work

It depends on the size of the job. A smaller project can take a few days, and a larger deck, staircase or fencing job can take a week or ten days. I work with a small crew of two trusted staff members, and I oversee every project myself from the first visit to the final clean up. It is never handed to a distant subcontractor.

I work in Betty's Bay, Kleinmond, Pringle Bay and Rooi Els.

If you are thinking about decking, a pergola, a staircase or fencing, call or message and I will come and look at the spot with you. Every quote starts with a free site visit, with no charge and no obligation.
