The standard guidelines are the minimum. What matters is how it feels walking up in the dark with your hands full, so the rise and tread are set out on site before anything is cut.
Morning dew and salt spray keep treads damp for longer than people expect. Exposed treads are grooved or fitted with a textured anti-slip strip, especially the first and last step.
A staircase held on by a few screws into the fascia board is the most common failure we get called out to fix. Stringers are bolted into real structural framing so the whole staircase moves as one unit with the deck.
A corroding fixing weakens the timber around it long before you would notice. Every staircase uses stainless steel bolts and screws throughout.

Every project is personally overseen by Neville from quote to completion, never handed to a distant subcontractor.
